When I Think of Home was my first solo exhibition that debuted at Community Artists Collective. This project served as a place for self reflection that conceptualizes the idea of “home”. I was interested in the conceptualization of creating a home within myself while expressing gratitude to my family and their history that has shown me what home is.
These home videos highlight my family from 1994-2020 and the themes throughout black culture that inspire me today. The background is a sunset I filmed outside of my paternal grandmother’s home in Bryan, Texas. Accompanied by As by Stevie Wonder, this video represents black joy, community, togetherness, and love that expands beyond saying “I love you”. This is about the love you find and seek in gathering, eating, dancing, hugging, laughing etc.
