As an artist born and raised in Houston, I carry the stories of my family and community. My mother’s childhood on Rosedale Street in Third Ward, her adventures at Peppermint Park, my cousins’ memories of Astroworld and Funplex, and my grandparents’ nights at the El Dorado Ballroom all shape how I understand Houston and inspire me to honor them through my work.
Houston is a city rich with culture, but with gentrification and time, many landmarks have become ghosts of what once was. Through my collage practice, inspired by artists like Lauren Halsey, I reconstruct these places with care and imagination. The landmarks, stores, music, and everyday spaces that no longer exist or that deserve renewed appreciation reappear in my collages against cosmic backdrops.
