Morgan Newton is a painter, conceptual artist, and Howard University Alumna based in Houston, Texas. My practice is guided by the methodology of Sankofa, looking to the past to understand and shape the present. Through textiles, collage, and archival research, I explore how memory and care shape collective experiences. From a young age, I would beg my Uncle Gene to bring out his telescope, and together we watched the stars over South Park, Houston. That sense of wonder, alongside the reality that Black people are often excluded from dominant narratives, shapes the worlds I create, universes where Black life is fully seen and celebrated.
